QUILT REQUEST FORM

Common Threads Purpose:

The goal of the Common Threads ministry is to provide quilts of encouragement and comfort to the members of Mountainview Christian Church in the name of the Lord.

We hope that our quilts will become a physical reminder to the recipient and their families that God's love enfolds them, that our God is the "God of all comfort" (2 cor. 1:3). Each quilt is prayed over. We pray that the love and comfort of God will be felt by the recipient all the days of their lives. We pray that each time they wrap up in their quilt, they will feel the Father's loving arms around them and be reminded that the Mountainview Family is praying for them.

Why make quilts? Because quilts are more than just a gift of a quilt. They are the visible, tangible, physical evidence of faith - faith in God, faith in love, and faith in prayer. But most of all they are a symbol of our faith in, and for one another. These quilts are vessels that hold all good wishes, thoughts, and hopes. They are bathed in prayers of the women who make them. It is an affirmation of our faith in God and our belief in God's power to comfort, strengthen, and heal.

How can you help?

As Grow and/or Home Group Leaders, you have your hand on the pulse of your group. So, we need your help to let us know when there is a need for a quilt to be delivered. Keeping in mind that we are a small group and making a quilt takes quite a bit of time, we have had to set criteria for who is eligible to receive a quilt.

  • Active, attending members of MVCC
  • Or an immediate family member of an MVCC member (ie: spouse or child living in household)
  • The recipient must have a terminal illness, or be undergoing chemo/radiation therapy, or have a long-term illness or recovery situation.
  • Baby dedications

In addition to quilt gifts, we have a rotating quilt program called, "Chicken Quilts" for people who are going to be temporarily "cooped up" with an illness or recovery from an accident. A quilt will be delivered that they can use during their convalescence. It comes with a permanent marker with which they encouraged to autograph the quilt. Once they are well, the quilt is returned and passed on to the next person who may be in need.

If you have someone in your Grow and/or Home Group who is in need of this ministry, we ask that you fill out the form, and Debra Tomlin will arrange to get a quilt to you and you, or someone in your group can deliver the quilt. Debra is happy to go along with you on these delivery visits if that would be helpful or more comfortable for you. You may contact her by phone at 503-867-1909.
